Trip To Mars
Summary
At the beginning of the story we can see how the author explains and describes that humans are creating rockets, we can probably guess that they are to get to Mars. Meanwhile, on Mars, a martian called Ylla dreams about a human that goes to Mars, she describes him to his husband, Yll, and he is jealous, because even though Ylla thinks that the man was very weird, she says he is also handsome. Yll decides to kill the man from Earth. After some time, some martians begin to act like americans for no reason at all, in some way they know that men from Earth are going there to meet them and try to colonize them. The humans finally get to Mars, and many of them are killed by the martians, for no reason at all. Meanwhile, a man on Earth, called Pritchard, goes to the rocket station and yells to one of the men in uniform that he wanted to go to Mars. The man was a taxpayer, and he says that he wants to go out from the planet because he thought there was going to be a nuclear war in the planet, so he wanted to leave as fast as possible.
Quotes
"I never suspected myself of such an imagination. Black hair, blue eyes, and white skin! What a strange man, and yet—quite handsome." (4)Ylla describes a man who can be portrayed to a young hansome man, from Earth, a planet they didn't even know. She thinks that he is different and weird, but she realizes there is no reason to discriminate people for being different so she accepts him.
"Chicken Pox" "My God, no!" "Yes, I made tests. It did things to the Martians it never did to the Earth men." (51)
Here, Spender and other man from the expedition are talking about how a very common disease in Earth has striked on Mars, and somehow the effects and symptoms of the disease are different on Martians that on humans, it changed the metabolism of the Martians.
Conclusion
The story until now seems very confusing to me, due that the different chapters keep going through stories from Earth to Mars, and back and forth, but to make a brief summary there is conflict between the men and the martians, due that the men going to the expeditions to Mars are trying to colonize them, which is understandable. Many people from Earth wnats to leave the planet to go to Mars, because they think there is no reason to remain on Earth with all the problems in it.
